While I was out buying my textbooks and other paraphernalia goodies for the up coming semester this morning, the clerk at the college book store told me the all the binders I was buying were going to be obsolete by next term. “Kwantlen College / University will become a full fledged University!” she gleefully told me. What the clerk meant was that the College logo and crest will be changed and modified to reflect our new statues. My binders, coffee mug and sweatshirts would be collector’s items by the end of 2008. The Kwanlten web site says:
I am pleased to inform all students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, supporters, and community members that the BC Government has re-designated Kwantlen University College as a university.
It was sort of shocked when she told me this news because the first thing that popped into my head was “price increases” and “price hikes” for services. Kwantlen is the main reason why I am not up at Simon Fraser University. Between the commute and cost of admission, going to Surrey from Fort Langley is a dream in contrast. The Surrey campus had a big “doo” just the other day with the premier, Gordon Campbell in attendance, so everything is all official.
Our name will be Kwantlen Polytechnic University and we anticipate that the required amendments to the University Act will be passed during the current sitting of the legislature. We will likely formally change our name in September.
So this means that I’ll need to buy more sweat shirts, coffee mugs and change over to the new binders. I wonder if I can change over my old graduation diplomas and awards too? I’ll miss the college status.
This is the what the current logo looks like. It will be interesting to see what the changes are that they decide to come up with.
