I decided to create my own poll and ask the question: “Should the Albion Ferry be closed once the new Bridge is up and running between Langley and Maple Ridge?” I got some very interesting replies as I asked around last Thursday. Basically, I stood by the Fort Pub and bridge that crosses the Fraser River just before you go onto the island to board the ferry, and asked people who I knew who live in the area this question.
Should the Albion Ferry be closed once the new Bridge is up and running between Langley and Maple Ridge?
Not surprisingly, the most objectionable bunch are the business owners who claim that the majority of their customers come from Ferry traffic. I think that there are too many variables for me to over come before I could statically prove that. However, from what this handful of people say it is clear that a noticeable majority of them are not happy with the closure of the Albion Ferry.
I think that the main reason for those local residence saying yes to this is because of the traffic congestion that is created from the flow of vehicles that pass through town when the Ferry unloads.
What is scary though is that there are some people who live here who do not know, or were not informed that the ferry was shutting down.
