Things are Going Along

April 27th, 2006 Thomasso

It has being a busy week , and with just 3 days left there is still lots to be done. I was actually feeling a little guilty not posting anything for the last while. I went on a mini road trip into the Hope, Princeton area for a couple of days to do some site seeing, but with the price of gas I thought I would cut it short and save some money. I shot a lot of photos along the way, too many to post, but I did see many things that, had I being in a hurry, I would of missed them. I met an old prospectors who still pans for gold along the Fraser River and some “squatters” who claim that they have not worked in fifteen years, that they lived off the land. Somehow I did not buy their storey? The highlight of the trip was three lovely women I met while on the main highway leaving Kamloops, 3 hours East of Vancouver. They were stopped along the road, I guess they were looking for plants that were growing along the hill near the road, and the roots from the one plants was too heavy, so I felt it was my good nature to help them out. They offered me a coffee at the next stop, so we sat and talked for a while. They have my number.

When I got home, I had a million e mails sitting there, waiting for me to answer them. Instead, I just put them hold until today, there were just too many to reply to–so if you were expecting an answer–this is why. However, I had a couple of e mails that could not wait; my sister Julia sent me some photos of her new daughter, Paula, so I (and you too), get to see what she finely looks like! What a little cutie! I wish I was there to see her. I think in this photo, she was just 3 days old.

Welcome to the Family-Paula!

April 16th, 2006 Thomasso

Julia had a baby girl @ 10:27pm last night: 5lbs-6oz and her name is Paula. Not sure on the spelling yet. Another niece! That is 4 nieces and 4 nephews now.

[UP DATE-April 23, 2006] I’m still waiting for photos from my sister Julia and her baby. Because they are so busy and the ones they took at the hospital didn’t turn out, they are going to wait until later to re-take them. Understandably so, if you knew how bad my brother-in-law is at taking photos, you would want me to wait also! *LOL!*

April Fools Day Everyone

April 1st, 2006 Thomasso

The funnest April Fools joke I heard yet today was the WestJet-Joke on CBC Radio. All the passengers were asked to participate in a new strategy to help the air-line manage fuel economy during take-offs. The flight attendants asked if each passenger could, as the jet started down the runway, to hold their arms out parallel to the floor, and hands flat, 90 degrees from their bodies.

I did a little digging on the net and found this little source about the origins of April Fools Day. I believe I posted this once before on my site, but failed to remember when and where I posted it.

The closest point in time that can be identified as the beginning of this tradition was in 1582, in France. Prior to that year, the new year was celebrated for eight days, beginning on March 25. The celebration culminated on April 1. With the reform of the calendar under Charles IX, the Gregorian Calendar was introduced, and New Year’s Day was moved to January 1. (wilstar.com: 2002)

Up date on Julia: She is excited. Not because she will soon be run off to the hospital and endure countless hours of hard child-birth labour, no, the doctors gave her a clean bill of health and said that for the remainder of her pregnancy she will have as naturally as possible. This bit of news translates into a very healthy pregnancy and no fear of medical intervention until the birthing period. Up until now, she has gone into a regime of testing and screening due to her high risk nature of past problematic pregnancies. So, two more weeks folks! Good luck Julia…

Is March Over Yet

March 28th, 2006 Thomasso

I’m off for class in a couple of minutes, so I have a little bit of time to give an update.

Julia is still waiting for the big moment when she will deliver her baby. It appears that her husband is doing all the nesting; brining home all sorts of baby stuff, he is fixing, moving and buying anything he can think of. Julia is so happy that he is taking care of that. Pink is the theme in the baby room; after two boys, a daughter is something different for them.

I wrote my last exam at the Justice Institute. Does this mean a different job for me in the near future? I don’t know… I would rather wait on my degree from Kwantlen before I put any hopes on that prospect. Apparently the main offices around the Province are still in low turn-over as the Baby-Boooomers are holding onto their poisons.

Updates & News for March

March 20th, 2006 Thomasso

This post is just a list of some of the important things that are going on around here for the month of March; a general information and event update that I can pass along everyone and keep you on the same page with, regarding Julia, Snooser and M. I will probably update this post a few time this week, as the news changes and develops.

UPDATE(March 23:2006): Julia has just informed me that her doctor told her that he/she feels she is fine enough to go ahead and continue with the pregnancy without inducement, which was to take place 3 weeks before her due date. In a way this is good news for her and the pregnancy; however, not knowing when sort of throws everything into the air because now the baby could come at any time. Oh well, best to let nature take its course…

Julia is scheduled to have her baby by next week. You gotta love modern medicine as they now can induce the pregnancy and choose when to deliver. Of course they do this to only high risk pregnancies, but it is the sheer convenance of the whole thing that impresses me: “Yes, I would like to have the baby on the weekend because Monday I have a book club…” Thursday is when she goes into the hospital and receives the final decision from her doctor.

Snooser told me yesterday that she had received some super bad news regarding her job: she is getting laid-off next week. She told me that the spring job is finished, they were ahead of schedule, and does not know when she will get the called back for tourist season. That is the problem of living in a one horse town—work is seasonal. Give her a call and cheer her up you want, she could use the company right now.

M, has not replied to my last email yet, so I figured that this will be the last contact for a while until she decides when she wants to talk again. I have not heard from her daughter “S” either, so something is up there. Whether she has gone ahead with the divorce or resolve her differences with her husband is anyone’s guess right now. Please let me know if you heard otherwise or update me on the latest. I could write more, but I figure I will hold off until I know the fires are out at that end of the family.

So, there you have it. Spring is here, happy Equinox, the days are getting longer and warmer times are upon us. Enjoy and have fun. :)

Things to Do On “V” Day

February 14th, 2006 Thomasso

Valentines day is upon us. This is one of the most polluted days with deadlines on the calendar that I have. Not only is this the day in which we send our special someones’ flowers, candies and some romantic-juice written card in the shape of a hart, this is the day that My dear Mother celebrates her birthday. Also, this is the day that my annual pilgrimage to the auto insurance company is due and I give them a huge pile of money in exchange for the privilege of driving for another year. Today is the day of deadlines that marks the true end of winter for me, because I know that after today, it will become warmer out and the days will become longer. I may be flat broke from spending all this money, but every cent is worth it. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you MOM, yes police, I have a new decal on my license plate, and look, I see the trees starting to bud! *Another tacky post written by Thomasso*

Vacation Continued…

January 8th, 2006 Thomasso

I am back for a little bit here. I’m getting ready to leave again, going over to Vancouver Island to see my sister and her kids. Vacations are so much fun! I decided that I would take another couple of days off before I hit the grind because you never know when you will get the opportunity like this again. I am finding that vacationing around this time of year is great and probably due to the fact that so many people are at home nursing their credit cards by focusing on making extra large payment towards that debt or just staying at home resting from the “season.” Everywhere I went the lineups were small with waiting times only a couple of minutes, you can’t ask for more than that!

I made a home movie DVD for the family, so those of you who are on my “good” list will receive a copy of Tom’s vacation adventures, and for those of you what are not, well, you’ll just have to borrow it from one of us or suffer.

Please note that I’ll not be looking at my Email until the end of the week. Once I’m back I will be heading straight for classes, so my time will be very tight. If you really want to get a hold of me, the weblog is the best place to reach me. I’ll have my laptop with me and I’ll check my web site at least once a day. I won’t be posting here until I get back unless something really big happens, but I’ll be looking. So, until then, you all take care!

Winter: Now the Days get Longer

December 21st, 2005 Thomasso

Winter has come upon us and as we sleep through the longest night we will be greeted with ever lengthening days from here on in until the cusp of Spring and Summer. Of all the days celebrated in the seasonal holidays for me this day is the most special. I plan my events around it and pay particular attention to it as it represents, as did the ancients, the rebirth the new year in terms of celestial events. So as you can see, if you read further on down, I plan my big events and mark changes on this day. I feel that in keeping with the rhythm of Solar System and the Earth, I can keep the rhythm of the things around me and use the ebbs and flow of these changes to my advantage. In 15 weeks the warm season will be here and along with it, hopes and promise of great things to come. So bring on Winter!
:kaffeee:

Family note

I got a new phone number on my mobile–please see email I sent out today. If you are not sure you have received it, then email from your address and I’ll update my address book and resend you the number.

Time Does Not Follow the Same Rules Here

December 15th, 2005 Thomasso

Opening the browser and Emailer is just like opening a present on Christmas morning, you never know what you will get. I wanted to check up on what the delivery situation was for the parcels I sent to Vancouver Island from Fort Langley was and as whether it would make it on time. As it turned out, the postal web service was not much of a help: it was not updated from the last time I checked. This could mean that the parcels are still sitting in Fort Langley for the last 3 days waiting to embark on their journey to the Island, or that they have in fact moved on and are waiting to be delivered, but the service was not updated to say that? I am hoping the latter was the correct answer.

My niece who lives in Quallicum Beach now, told me today that she is going to spend 9 days in California for Christmas. Lucky duck. Some people have all the luck. I know she is really sick of the brown winters along with the cool damp rainy weather that is famous around these parts, so this is what the doctor ordered. I hope she enjoys herself down there–I think she deserves it.

I just wrote my last exam today. You are wondering why today and not last Tuesday like I said before? Well, the prof. was super sick apparently and because of the mad rush to get exams marked and the next semester underway, he could not find any subs to take his place. I guess there was an attempt yesterday, but he never gave the exam to the T/A so we stood around waiting for twenty minutes then we all decided to leave and try again for today. I am so happy that it is finely over! I just want to get on with my seasonal things to do and enjoy the total time off from work. Finally, time off for good behaviour!:reading:

The End of a Weekend

November 13th, 2005 Thomasso

Well, back to work tomorrow and nose to the grindstone. I managed to get some homework done and my second to last project-midterm completed and printed. I only have few things left to do today to finish off the week, so I may get some relaxation time to myself tonight: I’m thinking of a movie…. The animation and graphics experiments are full of surprises. At one point I manged to animate 4 different objects, controlling them independently while converting it all into one rendered animation. Using the animated gif creator in GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) I redid all the graphics into on super small file (67kb) gif image. I’m a happy camper!

Added at 8:00pm

The long weekend is pretty much over. I phoned my baby sister up to wish her a happy birthday. Snoozer, as we call her, was somewhat happy about it. I reminded her that the big “THREE O” coming up fast and after that it is all down hill from there–so she better be good. By the way, we gave her the nick name Snoozer because she always slept in during her school days as a teenager. The name was so good it stuck. Next, I organized my vehicle insurance. Really the only hard part was putting the new decal on the license plate, but I also had to throw out the old papers and replacing them with the up-to-date ones. I had to go through the glove compartment, which was a chore in its self digging through a years worth of parking passes and other bits of stuff just to find it covered with junk and spilled coffee–ew. So my deeds are done and at last an hour on the net then off to bed. Have a great week everybody, hope you had a great weekend.
