Tom – You have my complete sympathy in your (desperate) attempt to learn another language, French. How I wish I knew more than this English I stutter. I believe you have missed that little window of opportunity in age where the brain can absorb the complexities of a second language.
Here is some really feeble advice, and quite a stretch.

When I was in a voice class I could not sing, too inhibited, until I pretended I was a singer, and voila! I belted out a song. When my nerves were shot and I had to drive a huge truck I was terrified I was going to kill someone. After I went around a corner with two wheels over the curb I pulled myself together and pretended I was a professional race car driver. It worked!

Is that too much of a leap to pretend you are French?
Okay never mind, I go back to my best, original advice which is to get a French girlfriend, tout suite!

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you Radam. Thank you for the offer – may I talk to you in a week about some French lessons? I’m just ploughing through the first round of midterms at the moment.
